ABOUT THE AUTHOR Allen Nelson Hunt's Ph.D. in Biological Sciences is from the University of Georgia. He retired from the US Army after twenty-four years in military medicine, having commanded the 485th Medical Detachment and serving in The Department of Communicable Diseases and immunology at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, the 5th Preventive Medicine Unit in Seoul, Korea, and the US Army environmental Hygiene Agency. Currently he enjoys the more sedate life of a college professor and writer in Kentucky teaching human anatomy and molecular biology.
Dr. Hunt, recipient of a number of national awards including The Exxon Innovations in Genetics and the NISOD Award for teaching Excellence, is a member of Pi Kappa Phi. Watch for Dr. Hunt's next book, WARREN, the sequel to 18 DAYS IN SEPTEMBER.
EXCERPT Flipping the switch on his office coffee maker, he turned his attention to the ringing phone. "Cross speaking," he said.
"Colonel Cross?" came the reply.
"Yes," cautiously. His blue eyes grew dark.
"There's been a fire sir." By itself, the phrase would alarm almost anyone. To Joshua Cross, Ph.D., it had a much deeper signature.
"And you are?" asked Cross.
"Jason, sir."
"And your verification code?"
"Hourglass," replied Jason.
"And Jason, what is your phonetic validation and number?"
"Zulu, Tango, Hotel, Romeo, Kilo two-niner," came the response. A clicking sound indicated termination of the call.
"Shit.' It was as much an exhale as a word.
Hourglass...he had an hour to respond to the fire.
Fire...the proverbial balloon had gone up.
It had taken less than a minute to change Jason Cross' life.

A pretty good read. Nicely paced and with a small enough number of characters to keep track of. Yes, there some things that stretch the imagination, but some of that is to be expected. Smallpox being released by terrorists is a plausible idea. That the terrorists get the virus from a Russian/Soviet lab misses the possible use of 'weaponized' smallpox to add to the drama. The love interest is idealized, but not sickly sweet. The ending seems a little rushed.Product details

Exciting and quick to have action and suspense. a page turner hard to put down i couldnt wait to see how tit would end
18 DAYS in SEPTEMBER by Allen N. Hunt, Ph.D is an amazing opening of the mind and an experience onto itself. The internal machinations play out in the mind and really reveal how one deals with personal moral and ethical codes vs. a survival instinct. A thrilling read and glimpse into what could be happening today- hopefully we will never have to make these choices.

This book captured my interest on the first page, and didn't let up. The characters are well defined; the potential reality of the story is both frightening and fascinating. All the emotions are engaged throughout the book -- humor, surprise, fear, love, hate, and respect. The thought-provoking statements at the beginning of each chapter would make a good collection on their own -- words to read often to remind ourselves of their truths.
Am I ever glad I picked up this book! The science woven into the story is presented in terms that are easy to understand but did justice to the intelligent reader -- the Professor in Dr. Hunt definitely comes through in his writing. Equally as engaging as the technical quality of the story was the wonderful character development that brings the reader close to Josh, K, and the rest of the characters. The storyline moves along at a comfortable pace from the start, but then it takes a wild turn in the middle and leaves the reader on the edge of his seat racing to the end! I found my self unable to put this book down, stimulated both intellectually and viscerally. The book ends with a hint at a sequel. I can hardly wait!
18 Days in September was a great read. It held my interest from beginning to end. I can't wait for the next book by Dr. Allen N. Hunt.
This sounds like it was written by someone with military-government ties. A little too much patriotic explanations, justifications, etc. But it was an exciting story and I think it did get the details right.
